Social Distancing Changes the Statistics

While the United States was once just a blip on the radar when it came to the number of infections with the Wuhan coronavirus (COVID-19), the latest statistics show that the US are probably now a world leader.

The official numbers would appear to show that the U.S. now has more Wuhan coronavirus (COVID-19) infections than any other country, while New York has more cases than any other state.

In fact, New York currently has about 45 percent of the total number of coronavirus infections in the entire country, with more than 125,000 confirmed cases, according to researchers from Johns Hopkins University in Maryland.

in New York City are among those aged 18 to 44, but severity rates tend to follow global trends when it comes to age and underlying conditions, data from the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene reveals.

Of the 15,597 confirmed as of Tuesday afternoon, 7,094, or 46 percent, were in patients below the 45. In that age group, 9 percent of people with the novel coronavirus have been hospitalized, and there have been five deaths.

All told, the data suggests the city is in line with other countries like Italy, which has reported that the majority of patients experiencing severe cases of COVID-19 are in older age groups, though that certainly doesn’t mean younger people aren’t at risk. In New York, more than one-fifth of fatalities have occurred in the 45 to 64 range.

South Africa numbers are low at this stage however we are only at outbreak stage and with the way the people are behaving in the informal settlements and around, once the virus takes hold we could see a rapid spread. We have also heard that there is a backlog of testing that has been done and not reported. There is little doubt that what we know and what is truly happening in terms of infected people is not in line.

On March 31, 2020, there were around 57,700 new cases of coronavirus (COVID-19) worldwide. There have been cases of COVID-19 in every country in Europe and every U.S. state. This statistic shows the number of new cases of coronavirus (COVID-19) worldwide from January 23 to March 31, 2020, by day.

Right now some of you might be at the point where you’re feeling a bit bored” and tempted to go out and socialize, but “please, just keep staying in — I promise you, given the research we doing, it’s worth it. It has been said that you could quickly infect 59,000 people if you go out, and visualized that exponential transmission with dominoes.

Spanish graphic designer Juan Delcan created an animated video to demonstrate how social distancing can stop the spread of Covid-19. He hopes the video will encourage the viewers to stay home amid the pandemic.
